David D. Stein took a roundabout route to the law, and developed a variety of conflict management skills along the way. He learned the principles of mediation while working security for the concert promoter Bill Graham Presents.

David had just recovered from a bout of hepatitis, following travels to Afghanistan in the mid 1970s, and, on his return, he weighed in at a whopping 120lbs. He quickly learned that conflict management has very little to do with brawn, but that it incorporates active listening, quick thinking, and the ability to give everyone involved the chance to save face.

While attending law school, David was supervising BGP security, training guards to implement effective protection strategies, and to recognize, anticipate and diffuse ugly situations before they got out of hand, preferably, before they even got started!

Mr. Stein still acts as a guest lecturer in this field, teaching unarmed and armed security providers the principles and techniques of non-violent dispute resolution.
As David moved into the practice of law, his interest in mediation continued to grow, and for the past 10 years he has been both a mediator and a litigator. He works as a volunteer adjudicator in fee disputes involving lawyers and their clients. He discovered that a large percentage of these cases involve parties in divorce proceedings. It became clear to him that a different approach to the end of marriage might avoid this situation altogether.

In 2009, after a successful two decade career as a litigator, Mr. Stein became a full-time mediator. He has created Liaise Divorce Solutions, LLC, a group of experienced former attorneys practicing mediation, to provide consumers and businesses with cheaper, faster, better solutions to legal problems, particularly divorce.
